Petronas Receives Corporate Nation-Building Award

Business

PETRONAS was recently announced as the recipient of the Corporate Nation-Building Award in the Private Sector category by Thailand’s Nation-Building Institute International (NBII), at a virtual ceremony in Bangkok.

The ceremony was organised in conjunction with The International Conference on Nation-Building (ICNB) 2020, themed “Nation-Building in the Pandemic New Normal” and was hosted by the NBII and the Nation-Building Institute Malaysia (NBIM).

The Nation-Building Awards are given to individuals and organisations from tri-sectors (government, private and people sectors) that contribute meaningfully to the society as well as nation-building in an impactful manner. They aim to create inspiration for those that dedicate their lives to the cause of public interest.

In commemorating the recognition, PETRONAS President and Group Chief Executive Officer Tengku Muhammad Taufik’s acceptance speech was broadcasted at the event.

“As Malaysia’s national oil company, PETRONAS was entrusted with the responsibility of managing and maximising the nation’s hydrocarbon resources for the benefit of the nation. In the past 46 years, we remain grateful that our growth has been synonymous with the growth of Malaysia. We strive to continue to become the nation’s pride at the global stage.”

As PETRONAS continues to grow, its new Statement of Purpose reflects the Company’s aspiration to become ‘a progressive energy and solutions partner enriching lives for a sustainable future’, thus supporting sustainable development as a corporate citizen wherever it operates.

“Today, the task of nation-building is really nation rebuilding – recuperate and reignite hope from immense losses of lives and livelihoods due to the impact of COVID-19. I am humbled by the award that I am receiving on behalf of PETRONAS today, as it was the 48,000 employees who went beyond to make an impact at pace,” said Tengku Taufik.

Other recipients of the award include Professor Dr Muhamad Yunus, Nobel Prize Laureate and Founder of the Grameen Bank who received the Lifetime Achievement Award (People Sector) as well as Barefoot College-Social Work and Research Centre (India) for the Corporate Nation-Building Award (People Sector).

ICNB 2020’s main objective is to bring together more than 1,000 experts across the public, private and civil society across the North and South America, Europe and the Asia Pacific in the diverse sectors, to collectively address nation-building issues in this unprecedented new reality.
