Business

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has presented the Occupational Framework (OF) for the Travel and Tourism Industry to the Department of Skills Development (Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK)) in a ceremony held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur today.

The Occupational Framework, numbering more than 100 pages, is the culmination of efforts initiated by the Department of Skills Development, in collaboration with MATTA. MATTA was officially appointed as the Industry Lead Body for the travel sector on the 19th June 2017 and in April 2018, experts of the industry were selected to meet in Kuala Lumpur to undergo the rigorous workshop for Occupational Framework followed by the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS).

OF is the outcome of analysis conducted in identifying the work scope of the occupational areas in terms of competencies which is used to analyse skilled human resource competency requirements for the industry. The development of the occupational structure is a preliminary process in developing the relevant NOSS.  The NOSS will be used as the basis to conduct skills training and certification of competent personnel.

MATTA trusts that the Occupational Framework will benefit all our members and upskill the current set of individuals who are working in the industry and encourage the non-travel related individuals in choosing the travel industry as a career opportunity.

As an ILB, MATTA is committed to ensuring that skilled manpower-based resources for the travel industry are sufficient in the labour market. We are set to plan and drive the growth and development of the industry and are responsible for developing the NOSS in line with the industry’s needs in order to provide talent for the sector to further increase the percentage of registered skilled workers in Malaysia.
